All I Really Want
The following people have contributed either their magic, faith, time, energy, vision, passion, support or friendship in an important and apreciated way:
My spiritual brother, Glen Ballard (words cannot express my gratitude...); my manager/crusader Scott Welch; John Alexander, Guy Oseary, Freddy DeMann, Abbey Konowitch, Madonna, Fred Goldring, Kurt Denny, Chris Fogel, Ken Hertz, Bob Cavallo, Terry Sawchuk, Cris Tortolano, Brent Baxter, everyone at Maverick Records and at Mca Publishing, all the musicians, my friends and family.
Thank you each beaucoup.
Therefore "Alanis", and "Now is the time", Alanis bursted in the scene with a confessional album full of bitter, ironic and intelligent songs, mixing the rhythms and the colour of hip-hop with the rage and the fragility of rock and a touch of folk (well I really don't like to categorize Alanis's music so maybe the best way it's turn your tape up and listen), creating in my opinion an unique, personal and indescribable record, puf I have no words, I love it. The best you can do is just to listen to it...
the other day i was thinking about it, i mean when the hell i'm going to get tired of the songs?? i've listened to jlp a bazillon of times and i never get tired of it, and i really don't know when i'll, i always discover new sounds on it, i love all of it, it's always like listening to it for the first time.. it's a pretty irrational feeling, the other day i was listening to some classical music and i love bach, specially the suites (the one) and i was listening to an lp that's great and at the same time i wanted to listen to a new album that a friend has lent to me and what did I do? i put jlp.. again.. just some variation of the usual rule.. lol i can't understand it
be carefull these pills are addictive
YOU OUGHTA kNOW video, directed by Nick Egan
"We were in Death Valley for three days, and I guess what we wanted to focus on was not
necessarily a literal take on the song, because I think that would have been overkill. At that point, there was quite enough emotion, and we didn't need to do that visually, too. So, what we focused on was the way I felt afterwards, the isolation and the moving on of sorts."
HAND IN MY POCkET video, directed by Mark kohr, black and white, filmed in Brooklyn.
I like the Cadillac!
.
"I'm high but I'm grounded
I'm sane but I'm over whelmed
I'm lost but I'm hopeful baby"
"What it all boils down to
Is that no one's really got it figured out just yet
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is playing the piano"
IRONIC video, directed by Stephane Sednaoui Filmed in New Jersey's roads.
"Mr. Play it safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids good-bye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
"well isn't this nice"
"It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his boyfriend" Mr. Jason
YOU LEARN video, directed by Liz Friedlander filmed in New York City.
"I recommend bitting off more than you can chew to anyone"
There's another video recorded live, showed in Canada, with a bunch of shots of the band, live concerts, etc...
"Any opportunity to throw pies at my band members, I'll take advantage of it..."
HEAD OVER FEET video, directed by Michelle Laurita and Alanis Morissette.
A close-up of Alanis with a steady cam. It shows what most of the artists are afraid, silences that seems endless, the chorus... In times were most of the videos have shots as quick as useless. This video is quite original and unusual. There are two versions of that video, including the 12th take, that's the one that finished with Alanis laughing at the end!.
There's one more version showed in Jagged little pill live with Alanis and the band playing with childrens running and playing the harmonica around them.
"I had no choice"
Alanis is very involved in the videos, editing, picking the director, story, etc.
