Free Tibet
The Tibet was anexed to China in 1949. Since then more than a millon of Tibetans has been chased, jailed, tortured in the wildest ways, and massacred for opposing in a pacific way to the destroy of their
culture and religion.
I guess strong countries opriming weak ones is not a new concept.
But the Tibet is not the only place in the world that
is going through that kind of atrocities, like Algeria, which is passing for the wildest
"civil" war (if any war could be considered as the wildest one) without almost
any atention of the people and media, the Talibans in Afganistan or Kosovo. It seems a story of the 1600, but if the calendar marks 1998, it's like the other half of the world didn't know about what happens or didn't care about it, which I think is even worse. Main governements do nothing about it or even publically support this, this has always happened so I shouldn't be surprised, it's happened 20 years ago in the several "dictateurs" of Latin America, etc.. well I'm not Carpentier so I just hope that Wall Street stop the race for a second, a second that must be the enternity for someone right now out there. Can't we learn anything of our own history?.
The Milarepa Fund of Students for a Free Tibet was created by students of all around the world to inform people about what's happening now in Tibet and to try to help Tibetans as much as posible. "You don't need to regret what happenned if you can do something about it now".

Tibetan freedom concert '97
The Tibetan freedom concert was organized by the Milarepa Fund and the Beastie Boys to promote and imform people about Tibet. It took place at San Francisco and New York. Although I think that people were at the concert just for their favourites rock stars, some of that people started to know what happenns thanks to the concert, and that's a beginning. At least more than politicians and media do.

The Tibetan Freedom Concert was released in
November as a triple cd by Grand Royal/Capitol Records.track list
"People just need to, become aware...have the information given
to them and they can do what they will with it, and I think music is a great
way of doing that." Alanis Morissette
Alanis played in the Tibetan Freedom
Concert '97 in New York City on June. She performed a
semi-acoustic concert and showed up two new songs: "London", and "Gorgeous". Besides she played "Can't not", "king of Intimidation", (a song that seems thought for this concert) "Your House"
and "Wake up". The concert was the first since the Can't Not tour, some people who were at the concert said she was great,
hey happy birthday!. Alanis played with Chris Chaney and Nick Lashley on bass and guitar
and Gary Novak on drums.
7 and 8 June 1997. New York.
